GLACE Smartfil® filaments
The Spanish brand Smart Materials is recognized for its excellent quality in the manufacture of 3D printing materials. The PLA spools stand out for their versatility, easy handling, resistance and properties such as Glace, a very versatile material with which to achieve different finishes and totally transparent parts.
Main characteristics of Glace filament Smart Materials
Glace filament is a thermoplastic polymer with mechanical properties superior to ABS and PLA, good impact resistance and high flexibility. It allows the production of large parts with excellent quality without warping. In addition, it can be chemically polished with alcohol so that parts with high transparency and a completely smooth finish can be produced.
It is a material suitable for FDM 3D printers because it is easy to handle, fully stabilized and has excellent detail results.
Thanks to the fusion between layers, the part acquires a structural resistance that allows continuous solid forming and high sealing.
In order to print transparent parts, a single layer must be used, so that the alcohol can penetrate the material homogeneously. If a good mechanical resistance is to be achieved, it is recommended to use nozzles of 0.8 mm or higher. In this way we will obtain a wall of sufficient thickness to maintain the desired mechanical resistance. For a greater transparency effect in the finish using Glace, it is recommended to print using the "Spiral vase" option
It comes in two thicknesses; 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm. The printing temperature ranges from 205 - 235º C..
Glace de filament recommendations Smart Materials
Apply the treatment with alcohol (ethyl or isopropyl) with a concentration higher than 70°. The higher the alcohol strength, the faster the process, although it is also more difficult to control
Once the piece has been impregnated in alcohol, let it dry in the air, depending on the amount of alcohol absorbed by the piece it may soften a little, when the alcohol has evaporated completely the piece will return to its normal state
