    ASA Smartfil filaments

The Spanish brand Smart Materials is recognized for its excellent quality in the manufacture of materials for 3D printing. They stand out in the spools for their versatility, easy handling, resistance and great variety of shades and properties. ASA filaments have a high dimensional stability and the parts have good tolerances.

Main characteristics of ASA filaments Smart Materials

ASA filament is a thermoplastic formed by acrylate, styrene and acrylonitrile and has properties similar to ABS. It has higher UV resistance due to the type of rubber used in the formulation. Known for its high resistance to impacts and high temperatures, it is widely used in parts intended to be outdoors for long periods of time

It is a 3D printing material by FDM technology somewhat more difficult to treat than other filaments such as PLA as it presents greater deformation and can emit vapors while printing due to the presence of styrene.

ASA from Smart Materials has good resistance to saturated hydrocarbons, lubricating oils, vegetable and animal oils, aqueous salt solutions, weak acids and alkalis and water

However, it may be vulnerable to degradation by inorganic acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, ketones and some alcohols. One good thing about ASA's susceptibility to degradation by ketones is that it can be polished with acetone, one of the most common polishing agents used in 3D printing.

Available in several colors. You have to use with this type of ASA filaments a higher extrusion temperature than usual, the recommended one is 240 - 260ºC.
